UNIDIR seminars and discussion meetings focus on various
topics related to disarmament, security and non-proliferation. Their
aim is to bring new ideas and potential solutions to the attention
of the arms control and humanitarian action communities.
We tailor our meetings to both the purpose and audience
of the event. Some are open, multi-day seminars with moderated panel
discussions; others are short, invitation-only briefings where experts
and participants take part in an off-the-record discussion following
a presentation.
Participants, speakers and invitees include government
representatives, academics, researchers, NGOs, other international
organizations and the interested public.
We have a particular interest in working with the
delegations to the Conference
on Disarmament (CD) on issues pertaining to the CD and to other
issues of concern on the disarmament agenda. At many of our meetings,
delegates are invited to attend in their individual capacities
and have an opportunity to examine and discuss in-depth,
priority issues on the disarmament agenda. Our aim is to provide
CD delegates with relevant information and a 'space for dialogue'
that will assist them in their disarmament negotiations and initiatives.
The majority of our meetings are held in Geneva,
but UNIDIR also organizes events abroad.
