UNIDIR has a core staff responsible for project and
programme management, publications, administration and IT support.
In order to provide the Institute with a large degree
of flexibility to tackle new research areas with a short start-up
time, researchers are either recruited to work at the Institute
on a specific project or outside experts are commissioned to undertake
the work. This permits the Institute to draw on the widest possible
variety of backgrounds and disciplines and encourages cooperation
with other institutions, experts and scholars.
For some studies, UNIDIR establishes multinational
expert groups to ensure a balanced approach. Participants are drawn
from varied fields and perspectives, thereby both deepening and
broadening the scope of the group's work.
UNIDIR's core staff is complemented by visiting fellows
and research interns, supported
by their national governments, philanthropic foundations or sponsored
through our fellowship programme.
