Preventing and mitigating diversion of conventional weapons is a core component of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). The Stimson Center, Conflict Armament Research (CAR), and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) hosted an expert discussion of the ATT’s contributions to enhancing national efforts to tackle diversion.
The event introduced a new methodology for assessing the ATT’s impact on national counter-diversion measures and shared preliminary insights from a pilot study examining the treaty’s impact on the national control systems of six (6) ATT States Parties.
