New START and Beyond: Building Confidence and Compliance with Future Arms Control Agreements

New START, the only nuclear arms agreement in force between the United States and Russia, is currently set to expire on the 5 February 2021. Less than five months before the current expiration of New START, this UNIDIR event will discuss what is required to build confidence in compliance with future arms control arrangements in a period of geostrategic tension. Speakers include:  

  • Rose Gottemoeller – Distinguished Lecturer, Center for International Security and Cooperation, Stanford University. Formerly Deputy Secretary General of NATO and Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security at the U.S. Department of State. 
  • Evgeny Buzhinsky – Chairman of PIR Center. Formerly Head of the International Treaties Department of the Ministry of Defense of Russia.
